"Your Fool" Is In The Home Stretch--
MY ALMOST-DONE ALBUM
While I haven't been writing much about the progress of what will be my sixth recording project, I'm in the home stretch for the album that will be called Your Fool. It boasts the weirdest conglomeration of music styles, and the only common theme is that all the songs & tunes were written by me. A couple of the songs are 80s pop-rock styled, some are my trademark jazz ditties, and there are even a couple of English Country Dance tunes (one I've even written a dance for!) I'm very pleased with how it's coming along, but I'm not sure I'll have it completed before Christmas, which is racing toward us all at alarming speed. The album cover will be adorned with some lovely illustrations by my daughter, Calvaleigh Rasmussen (who also plays on one of the songs with her beau, Kevin Hughes). I'm learning how to do the graphic design to meld text with images. Putting all these pieces together feeds the insatiable need to create! (That--and the need to control EVERYTHING!)
While I'm on the topic of albums, I have to shout from the rooftops about one you'll want to own, just released by one of my pals, Rod Brown. It's a beautiful collection of original tunes for mountain dulcimer, and it's very nicely executed and absolutely lovely to listen to. It's called Dulcimer's Dream and Rod assures me that he has padded mailers, and isn't afraid to use them. His email address is rodbrobiz@gmail.com. With a lovely cast of supporting musicians, this is one you'll want to install in some Christmas stockings!
I'M STREAMING NOW! I thought I was taking the high road, supporting other musicians as well as my own music by avoiding the online music streaming services that pay artists mere percentages of pennies, and just selling CDs. But I'm 61 years old, and I've made some good recordings; if the work is not where anyone can listen to it, what's the point?
You can now stream my music on Spotify, Pandora, GooglePlay and AppleMusic and just about anywhere, really. At the moment, I'll Just Lie About It is up, and Songs of My Father's People is in line, next. Please follow & share me as an artist--and thanks for your support!
A HEARTY TURN OUT FOR THE CELTIC SONG SING-ALONG!
We half-filled the Freight & Salvage's 450+ seats with singers who joined us for the free sing-along, part of the Freight's 50th anniversary celebration. Shay led songs from Ireland, I led songs from Scotland, and the lyrics to our songs were projected on a screen, so no one had to do much remembering. It was a lot of fun, and I was tickled at how many folks came up to us at the end to ask for lyrics to be sent to them. One gal drew this very sweet cartoon of us--I failed to get her name, but was very touched to have this little drawing!
