SEPTEMBER IS HERE!

How is it possible to be this busy? I would have thought that without gigs, I'd have plenty of time to write my newsletter, but not so! It's six weeks since I was part of the team that put together Lark Camp Online — a virtual version of camp. I did the instructor programming and all the bookkeeping, correspondence and communications, AND wrote a bazillion thank you notes to our wonderful donors. I'm almost caught up from the aftermath.

Then a couple of weeks ago, I had a real, live gig in the Mendocino Woodlands. My pals, Will Wheeler, Jess Newman and I provided music and dance for a fully vaccinated wedding party. I found myself unexpectedly weepy during our sound-check; it felt familiar (as in intimate) and amazing. Everyone was new to contra dance, but they all danced for two hours—no one sat out! Best fun I've had in a long time and worth the six hours of driving there and back the next day. I have a birthday party gig in the pipeline, so even though it feels too early for the dance community at large to start hosting dances, I'm glad of the opportunity to dust off my dance cards and call a couple of smaller scale events. Food for my live music and dance starved soul!
